Acer sp. seed in pairs from Erdőbénye
Pair of Middle Miocene (Sarmatian) age (ca. 10-13 million years old) Acer sp. (maple) seed impressions. The seed fossil was unearthed during diatom mining in the Zemplén Mountains in Hungary near the settlement of Erdőbénye. The dimensions of the silicified diatomaceous rocks containing the impression are approx.: (A): 120 mm x 89 mm x 20.5 mm. Weight approx.: 134 grams + packaging. (B): 64 mm x 51 mm x 9 mm. Weight approx.: 21 grams + packaging. Length of the seed is approx.: 24 mm
