Acer seed fossil pair from Erdőbénye
Pair of middle Miocene (Sarmatian) age (ca. 10-13 million years old) Acer cf. integerrimum (maple) seed impressions. The seed fossil was unearthed during diatom mining in the Zemplén Mountains in Hungary near the settlement of Erdőbénye. The dimensions of the silicified diatomaceous stones containing the impression are approx.: (A): 134 mm x 122 mm x 24.8 mm. Weight approx.: 289 grams + packaging. (B): 78 mm x 77 mm x 9 mm. weight approx.: 39 grams + packaging. The other side of the larger stone also contains a partial leaf impression.
