Halichoerus grypus partial atlas vertebra (Grey seal)
Partial atlas cervical vertebra bone of a Pleistocene grey seal (Halichoerus grypus?). The seal fossil was found during trawling in the North Sea, near the coast of the Netherlands. The dimensions of the vertebra are approximately: length 51 mm, height 52 mm, width 73 mm. Weight approximately: 42 grams + packaging. The surface of the vertebra is preserved with Collal glue dissolved in acetone. The remains of Bryozoans that still live in the sea are visible on the surface of the bone.
