Mammuthus sp. partial tusk in rock (23,2 Kg)
Mammuthus cf. primigenius (woolly mammoth?) partial tusk fragment in freshwater limestone. The mammoth fossil came to the surface during limestone mining in the Gerecse Mountains in the Komárom-Esztergom county of Hungary in the summer of 2024. The dimensions of the stone containing the tusk are approx. 533 mm x 315 mm x 169 mm. Its weight is approx. 23.2 Kg + packaging.. Dimensions of the tusk approx.: length 242 mm, largest diameter 93 mm. The surface of the tusk is preserved with a substance called Polyvinyl Butyral 30 dissolved in ethanol. This tusk is not suitable for processing for carving without further stabilization. The special feature of the tusk is that it was made from freshwater limestone. Thanks to this, it remained a beautiful white color.
