Woolly Rhinoceros partial jaw (4157 grams) Coelodonta antiquitatis SOLD (HOM) 02
Partial jaw of young Coelodonta antiquitatis (woolly rhinoceros) with 9 teeth. In the jaw you can see 6 teeth that have not yet come out before the rhinoceros chewed with them. The jaw fossil came to the surface during mining in Heves County, Hungary, about 20 years ago. The jaw is usually in two pieces. Jaw size approx.: right jaw: length 480 mm, height 280 mm, width 55 mm. Weight approx.: 2090 grams + packaging. left jaw: length 430 mm, height 280 mm, width 92 mm. Weight approx.: 2067 grams + packaging. At the end of the jaw, there are signs of chewing by a hyena or some other predator. The jaw was not preserved for many years, which is why the periosteum on its surface is incomplete and cracked. Drying cracks are visible in some places. The surface of the jaw is preserved with cyanoacrylate and PVB (Mowital).
