A small collection of 3 meteorites and a tektite
3 different meteorites and a tektite in a plastic box. The box measures approx. 85 mm x 60 mm x 13 mm. Weight approx. 20 grams + packaging. 1: Campo del cielo iron nickel meteorite from Argentina. At least 26 craters are visible at the impact site, which are estimated to be 4000-5000 years old. The total weight of the recovered meteorites exceeds 100 tons 2: NWA Chondrite meteorite, olivine pyroxene rock meteorite from the Sahara. 3: Vaca Muerta mesosiderite (stone-iron meteorite from Chile. This meteorite was discovered in 1861 in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. Vaca Muerta is known for its unique metal-rich rock material. Mesosiderites probably formed at the core-mantle boundary of an asteroid, where the metal core meets lighter rocks, and were then blasted apart by another meteorite impact, eventually impacting the Earth. Asteroid 16 Psyche is one of the main candidates for the parent body of mesosiderites. 4: Indochinite tektite Tektites were ejected into the Earth's upper atmosphere by a meteorite impact and then cooled rapidly to form their characteristic glass-like structure. Indochinites are distinctly dark black in color. These tektites are scattered over a vast area from Australia to China, from Micronesia to Indonesia. The impact may have occurred about 700,000 years ago.
