Mammuthus primigenius (woolly mammoth) tooth. The mammoth fossil came to the surface during gravel mining in Pest County, Hungary. The dimensions of the tooth are approx.: length 90 mm, height 101 mm, width 77 mm. Weight approx.: 401 grams + packaging. This tooth was collected more than 20 years ago. The tooth shows some old drying cracks. The cracks were filled with cyanoacrylate. The surface of the tooth used to be coated with polyurex varnish. Since the lacquer is cracked in several places, the surface is preserved with a substance called Polyvinyl Butyral 30 dissolved in ethanol. This makes the surface of the tooth shiny.
