Zelkova sp. leaf pair from Erdőbénye
Miocene age (approx. 10-13 million years old) Zelkova sp. (elm) leaf imprint on diatom (diatomaceous earth) surface in pairs. The plant fossil came to the surface during diatom mining near the settlement of Erdőbénye in the Zemplén Mountains in Hungary. The dimensions of the diatom are approximately: (A): 101 mm x 90 mm x 30 mm. weight: approx. 82 grams + packaging. (B): 87mm x 58mm x 28mm. Weight: approx. 51 grams + packaging. The length of the Zelkova letter impression is approx. 56 mm. The diatom is very soft and crumbly, so its surface is preserved.
